LOU CALLIES ARTIST PAGE

At a time of global unrest and overt political brutality against human beings and the planet, I find it most vital that art be a vehicle for connection.

In my collages of flags, for instance (I have collaged pride flags and flags representing countries that are being unceasingly assaulted by our governments’ policies and capitalistic interests), the images I’ve selected to compose the flags are intended to help the observer to see themselves and the people they interact with reflected back to them.

This is also an invitation to help others see beyond their own programming, which often contains the belief that trans and gender-expansive people don’t/can’t exist in everyday life—- we are queer and we have always been here; we might just have been made “invisible”.
